Do you know of an ACPS student in need? ACPS has partnered with Alice\u2019s Kids, a non-profit organization that provides short-term financial assistance to students with immediate needs. Relying on referrals from teachers, social workers, counselors and community organizations, Alice\u2019s Kids anonymously funds immediate student needs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every day, an ACPS student goes to school without a coat, wears sneakers with holes or carries their belongings in a plastic bag because they don\u2019t have a backpack. Another ACPS student can\u2019t see the SMARTBoard properly because her eyeglasses are broken. Others fall behind in class because they can\u2019t afford the supplies needed for a project or are habitually late to school because they don\u2019t have a simple alarm clock.<\/span><\/p>\n

ACPS teachers, social workers, counselors and community partners see situations like these every day. While many take such things for granted, going without basic essentials can not only affect that student\u2019s ability to learn, but it can also negatively impact the child\u2019s self-esteem.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through Alice\u2019s Kids, ACPS and its community partners are now in a better position to help \u2014 and all you have to do is ask.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you have a student with an evident need? Or do you simply want to reward a student for working hard or demonstrating positive behavior?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Send a simple email request and Alice\u2019s Kids pays for the item by issuing a check to the appropriate entity. In cases where a gift card is the only option, Alice\u2019s Kids determines the approximate cost and the appropriate store and electronically transmits the gift card to the referrer. The referrer then passes the card on to the parent or guardian and informs them that the card can only be used for the desired item.<\/span><\/p>\n
