The process to develop the 2019-20 Academic Calendar is underway and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=10371\"> ACPS Calendar Committee<\/a> is dedicated to ensuring your voice is heard.<\/p>\n<p>The committee is looking to balance the appropriate professional learning days, parent-teacher conferences and holidays into the calendar and is seeking your input and comments.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the things that are taken into consideration include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>183 student days and 13 professional development\/teacher work days<\/li>\n<li>First day of school after Labor Day<\/li>\n<li>Full day holiday on Wednesday before Thanksgiving (not mandated, but tradition)<\/li>\n<li>Spring break scheduled the same week as Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun counties to align spring sports schedules<\/li>\n<li>Student holiday on election day for security and parking<\/li>\n<li>Four early release days for high school at the end of year to accommodate testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two different versions of the draft traditional and modified calendars for the 2019-20 school year have been prepared for review and comment.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Version 1 of each calendar closely follows the structure of the current year calendar and features eight weekdays off for Winter Break and the last day of school on Thursday, June 18.<\/li>\n<li>Version 2 of each calendar is different in two respects:\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Winter Break: instead of eight weekdays off, there is a full two-week break.<\/li>\n<li>The last day of school is Monday, June 22.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Traditional Calendar<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019-20_traditional_version1_oct15.pdf\">Draft Traditional Calendar &#8211; Version 1 (PDF)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019-20_traditional_version2_oct15.pdf\">Draft Traditional Calendar &#8211; Version 2 (PDF)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Submit your feedback and comments on the <a href=\"https:\/\/acpsweb.wufoo.com\/forms\/m1kxnzp30b0pdi2\/\">Traditional Calendar<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Modified Calendar for Samuel W. Tucker School<br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019-20_modified_version1_oct15.pdf\">Draft Modified Calendar &#8211; Version 1 (PDF)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019-20_modified_version2_oct15.pdf\">Draft Modified Calendar &#8211; Version 2 (PDF)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Submit your feedback and comments on the <a href=\"https:\/\/acpsweb.wufoo.com\/forms\/r17sc8xu1daowzw\/\">Modified Calendar<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The online feedback forms will be available through <b>Sunday, November 11<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Once feedback has been received, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=10371\">Academic Calendar Committee<\/a> will evaluate the responses to see if the sentiment supports or opposes various options.<\/p>\n<p>The committee will then present recommendations to the Superintendent for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>The recommended calendars will be presented to the School Board in December. Once approved, the adopted calendars will be posted on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/Page\/2#calendar1\/20181018\/month\">ACPS website<\/a> and announced in ACPS Insider and on social media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Want to have a say in what days students have off school next year?
