October 8 is the second division-wide professional learning day of the new school year. It’s another opportunity for all ACPS instructional employees to engage in professional learning.<\/p>\n
All instructional employees are expected to be in professional learning sessions for the entire day. There is a wide range of sessions offered with sections appropriate for preK-12 teachers across content areas as well as paraprofessionals, administrators, EL, and specialized instruction teachers.\u00a0Sessions are offered in half-day increments from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. and in full-day sessions from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Please be sure to register in PLMS beforehand as sessions will fill up quickly and space is limited in several of the sessions. View the complete list of all of the courses<\/a> offered on October 8.<\/p>\n Engage, Enlighten, and Empower in Secondary Classrooms<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Best suited for secondary science and social studies teachers, this session will focus on instructional practices such as inquiry and research, AVID strategies, assessment strategies, academic language development, and more to collaboration about teaching practices that engage, enlighten, and empower our students.\u00a0#15579<\/strong><\/p>\n Imagine Math: Math Journals, Math Tasks, and Blended Learning, Grades 3-12<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n This session will explore how to empower teachers to use Imagine Math (IM) for blended learning using tools like\u00a0journaling and math language in this conceptual learning framework.\u00a0#15536<\/strong><\/p>\n Promoting Science and Literacy With School Gardens<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Participants will learn how a school garden or outdoor space can be used\u00a0to enhance the curriculum and teach Virginia science standards in grades K-5 and how school gardens can help teachers personalize the teaching of science standards by providing authentic learning opportunities for students.\u00a0\u00a0#15436<\/strong><\/p>\n Follow the Professional Development team on Twitter:\u00a0@TeachACPS<\/a><\/strong> It’s your turn to be the student!
