As previously announced, ACPS has set a goal of being fully compliant with violent intruder training (ALICE) before students report on their first day of school on September 4. This means that all staff at each campus\/school including Central Office will have completed the online ALICE Training and will have scheduled the violent intruder hands-on practical\/scenario training.<\/span><\/p>\n If you have not yet completed the online (ALICE) training, <\/b>please complete the online portion as soon as possible. You should have already received an email invitation with a link specific to you. It should not be shared. It is our way of determining who has completed the training. <\/span>If you need this link to be resent, please <\/b>email your request<\/b><\/a>.<\/b><\/p>\n If you have already completed the online training and wish to take the hands-on part before one has been scheduled at your location\/campus, <\/b>you may attend one of the 4-hour sessions on the following dates:<\/span><\/p>\n A morning session will be held 8 a.m. to noon and an afternoon session will be held 1 to 5 p.m., both in the T.C. Williams King Street Campus Rotunda.<\/span><\/p>\n Register for a training in PLMS<\/span><\/a>, course number is 15442. There are 60 seats per training session. Staff will receive in-service\/certification credit through PLMS.<\/span><\/p>\n Questions? Please contact Jamie Bartlett at <\/span>james.bartlett@acps.k12.va.us<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n ACPS staff are invited to participate in a free training and certification on <\/span>Youth Mental Health First Aid<\/b> over two half days. <\/span><\/p>\n The training teaches parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers and others how to help an adolescent (ages 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addiction challenge or is in crisis. This training is not recommended for mental health professionals.<\/span><\/p>\n The course teaches risk factors, warning signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use disorders, the effects of the illnesses, an overview of treatments and a five-step action plan for helping. <\/span><\/p>\n The training will take place on<\/span> August 27 and 28, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 4480 King Street in room 514.<\/span><\/p>\n To participate in the free training, please <\/span>register online<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n Where do you want to grow this year? What new learning would help you along that path? <\/span><\/p>\n Wednesday, August 29 is the first division-wide professional learning day of the new school year. This day provides an opportunity for you to launch into the new year by building skills and expanding your learning. Sections for administrators, classroom teachers, support specialists and paraprofessionals will be offered throughout the day. You can choose to attend one full-day session or two half-day sessions.
