{"id":4373,"date":"2018-02-11T20:18:20","date_gmt":"2018-02-12T01:18:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/staff\/?p=4373"},"modified":"2018-02-09T17:16:41","modified_gmt":"2018-02-09T22:16:41","slug":"learn-how-we-are-growing-an-exemplary-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/staff\/learn-how-we-are-growing-an-exemplary-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"Learn How We Are Growing an Exemplary Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACPS is committed to recruiting, developing, supporting and retaining an exemplary staff that meets the need of every student.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our efforts in this area are assessed through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/Page\/1664\">Goal 3: An Exemplary Staff<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0as part of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/Page\/329\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an update on which was <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/alexandriaschoolsva.swagit.com\/play\/01112018-726\/20\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">presented to the School Board<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on December 14.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the 2016-17 school year, ACPS met targets for filling full-time classroom positions by the first day of school, having student teachers placed in ACPS, improving beginning teacher salaries and growing staff participation in our wellness plan. ACPS saw a gain of 14 percent in hiring new teachers before June 30, leading to a strong start to the school year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While teacher retention held steady at 85 percent, ACPS aims to grow teacher retention by implementing a new mentoring program for new teachers, offering tuition assistance for professional development and offering a National Board certification support program. And, ACPS will offer continued support for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=6327\">Grow a Teacher<\/a> program,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0which trains tomorrows at our own T.C. To that end, this year new principals and assistant principals participated in a new administrators\u2019 orientation program. \u00a0The major focus for our new administrators in this program is to understand what \u00a0critical information is needed to become effective instructional leaders. \u00a0These principals are then able to better support teachers and provide productive feedback that best meet the needs of our diverse student body.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACPS is also implementing a leadership development plan with workshops focused on reinforcing a curriculum, promoting research-based and engaging instruction, implementing an effective formative assessment system, providing effective intervention systems that address the needs of our diverse student population and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you know someone who might be a good fit for ACPS?
