As part\u00a0of our commitment to sustainable environmental practices, ACPS has expanded efforts to implement energy efficiency initiatives designed to have a positive impact on our environment. These initiatives are helping to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and, they are also helping to reduce associated costs.<\/p>\n

In recent years, this has not only involved large-scale efforts, such as those incorporated into major projects, like the new Jefferson-Houston School and the new Patrick Henry School currently under construction, but also in smaller ways.<\/p>\n

Replacing incandescent light bulbs with more energy efficient LED bulbs is one of the smaller changes underway that will have a big impact.<\/p>\n

Our goal is to replace 500 incandescent light bulbs with equivalent LED bulbs this year. <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Why?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

A 60-watt equivalent LED bulb uses 85 percent less energy than an incandescent light bulb, provides better lighting and lasts for years.<\/p>\n

The Impact? <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Based on the six-year average lifespan of an LED bulb, replacing 500 incandescent light bulbs has an impact equivalent to removing 85.3 passenger vehicles from the road for one year. And, results in a cost savings of $53,550 over six years.<\/p>\n

Here is how you can help!<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Starting today, you can request new light bulbs to replace existing incandescent or compact fluorescent light bulbs in your desk lamp, auditorium, theater, restrooms, exit signs, etc.<\/p>\n

New bulbs are available for use in all ACPS facilities. Simply submit your request online<\/a>. Within two weeks, you will receive replacement bulbs through the facilities department.<\/p>\n
