These policies impact online and classroom settings. Please take the time to make sure you are aware of the policy changes below.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/board\/manual\/gac.pdf\">Policy GAC:\u00a0 Employee Use of Social Media<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Describes responsible and safe use of online social media technologies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to Know:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Employees who utilize social media with students or in fulfilling ACPS responsibilities must disclose this <strong>annually<\/strong> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/acpsweb.wufoo.com\/forms\/w7w9w3\/\">ACPS Social Media Registry<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Social media use for classroom instruction or school-sponsored activities\/groups must be pre-approved by the division.<\/li>\n<li>What governs appropriate conduct in the classroom applies online.<\/li>\n<li>Supervisors must have access to site passwords and content.<\/li>\n<li>No personally identifiable student information\/images posted without appropriate consent. Find out how to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/staff\/social-media-tips-series-getting-started\/\">check student photo and media permissions<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>No professional accounts\/resources may be used in the political process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Read the related regulation, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/board\/manual\/gac-r.pdf\">GAC-R: ACPS Social Media Regulations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/board\/manual\/gba.pdf\">Policy GBA\/JFHA:\u00a0 Sexual Harassment\/Harassment Based on Race, National Origin, Disability, Religion, Gender, Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Sexual Orientation<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prohibits sexual harassment of a student or personnel, as well as any harassment based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Race<\/li>\n<li>National origin<\/li>\n<li>Disability<\/li>\n<li>Religion<\/li>\n<li>Gender<\/li>\n<li>Gender Identity<\/li>\n<li>Gender Expression<\/li>\n<li>Sexual Orientation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Training to prevent harassment should be included in employee orientations, in-service training and student orientations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to Know:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This policy must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be posted in prominent areas of each building in a location accessible to students, parents and school personnel<\/li>\n<li>Be included in the Employee &amp; Student Handbook<\/li>\n<li>Be sent to parents of all students within the first 30 school days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Read the related regulation, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/board\/manual\/gb-r.pdf\">GB-R\/GBA-R\/JFHA-R: Procedures for Investigating Complaints of Discrimination and Harassment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/board\/manual\/gbaa.pdf\">Policy GBAA\/JHA: Prevention of Sexual Misconduct and Abuse<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Requires personal contact between adults and students to be nonsexual, appropriate to the circumstances, and unambiguous in meaning. Adults should avoid the appearance of impropriety in their in-person and electronic interactions with students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to Know:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sexual misconduct and abuse of students is prohibited and includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dating<\/li>\n<li>Making sexual advances<\/li>\n<li>Seeking romantic\/sexual relationships<\/li>\n<li>Having conversations of a sexual nature not related to professional responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Sexual contact<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Adults must restrict one-on-one, electronic communications with individual students to ACPS accounts, systems and platforms.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/board\/manual\/gbg.pdf\">Policy GBG\/KE: Staff Participation in Political Activities and School Board Election Campaigns<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prohibits school time and school property from being used for partisan political purposes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to Know:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Employees may not use ACPS resources to support\/oppose a political candidate.<\/li>\n<li>Employees may not suggest that ACPS supports\/opposes any political candidate.<\/li>\n<li>Employees may not distribute campaign material to students during school hours, unless in furtherance of curriculum objectives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have questions about these policies, contact:<\/p>\n<p>Chief Human Resources Officer (re: harassment, misconduct &amp; political activities) at 703-619-8168, or the Chief Technology Officer (re: social media use) at <a href=\"mailto:elizabeth.hoover@acps.k12.va.us\">elizabeth.hoover@acps.k12.va.us<\/a> or call 703-619-8005.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/board\/manual\/policy-updates.pdf\">View more policy updates.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/board\/manual\/\">View all School Board policies.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The School Board has approved several changes to ACPS policies regarding staff\/student interactions.
