Sybil Currie-Boyd was presented with the award in a surprise assembly of cheering sixth-grade students, faculty and guests on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Currie-Boyd was selected as one of eight winners across Virginia out of nearly 800 nominees. The award honors outstanding K-12 public school educators who are passionate about and committed to their profession, are innovative and creative in the classroom and go above and beyond in involving parents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was so happy for her. I was cheering for her the whole time. Nobody else deserves this more than her. Overall her class is the best I&#8217;ve had all year. I&#8217;ve enjoyed it a lot,&#8221; said one of her students.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She made learning fun for everyone. Everyone enjoyed her class,&#8221; another of her students added.<\/p>\n<p>Currie-Boyd is the first ACPS teacher to receive the award in its nine-year history. In addition to receiving a $2,000 cash prize, Currie-Boyd also received an additional $2,000 credit to purchase classroom supplies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was happy to share the moment with my family and my students were there, too. How cool is that! When I heard some of the things that were said in the nomination letter, I felt that there&#8217;s no way that I could do this by myself. It is the support of my colleagues and students that keep me going. This is their award.
