This year\u2019s theme in ACPS is \u201cSimply the Best\u201d and we know that our teachers are the best!<\/p>\n<p>In 1944, Arkansas school teacher Mattye White Woodridge wrote to politicians and educational leaders to ask for a day to celebrate teachers. Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt convinced the U.S. Congress in 1953 that our nation needed a day to recognize how teachers help change their students\u2019 lives for the better. We now celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week in the first full week of May.
