Families Can Register Students by Dec. 15 for Winter Break Meals<\/span><\/h1>\n

ACPS family members between the ages of two and 18 are eligible for meals from our school division over the winter break. Families can receive four days of breakfast and lunch per child. <\/span>Please sign up by Dec. 15 using this form<\/span><\/a> to receive winter break meals. The last day to register for meals is Wed., Dec. 15.<\/span><\/p>\n

Families requesting meals over winter break will need to pick them up on Tues., Dec. 21, from Alexandria City High School (ACHS), located at 3330 King Street. Meals will be distributed from 8-11 a.m. on the east side of the building next to the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you are unable to pick up the meals in person, a delivery service will be available for families on a limited basis. <\/span>Families can use this form to access home meal deliveries<\/span><\/a>. Anyone who has requested home deliveries will receive student meals between 9-11 a.m. on Tues., Dec. 21. A courtesy phone call will be made notifying you that the driver is on the way. Please meet the driver curbside to pick up the meals; masks are required.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you registered for meals and no longer need them, please cancel your order by contacting <\/span>food@acps.k12.va.us<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

High School Students Can Submit Art to Upcoming Exhibition at Marymount<\/span><\/h1>\n

The Fine Arts Program of the <\/span>School of Design and Art<\/span><\/a> at Marymount University is seeking submissions for a Juried Student Art Exhibition for grades 9\u201312. The exhibition will be held in Barry Gallery on Marymount’s Main Campus. Submissions are open to any student in grades 9-12 who attend school in Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Montgomery, and Prince George’s Counties. Each student may submit up to three entries until Mon., Jan. 10, 2022, by 11:59 p.m.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Selected artists will be notified by Jan. 15 and will be responsible for delivering and retrieving all selected artwork. All 2D work must be framed and ready to hang upon delivery. Fine Arts faculty of Marymount University have the right to refuse any work that does not comply with exhibition Rules and Submission Guidelines. <\/span>See the Marymount University webpage for rules and information<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alexandria City High School Senior Earns QuestBridge Scholarship<\/span><\/h1>\n

Alexandria City High School (ACHS) student Abdelrahman Abdelsadig has earned a full ride to college with the QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship. The Class of 2022 senior joins two ACHS students from the Class of 2021 in achieving this honor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Sudan, Abdelsadig\u2019s family came to the United States in 2007 when he was in the first grade. Abdelsadig\u2019s native language is Arabic and he learned English gradually throughout elementary school. \u201cThe language barrier was definitely the most challenging part of moving to the U.S. But thanks to teachers and friends, I now speak both languages fluently,\u201d Abdelsadig said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He is in the top 10 percent of his class and is on the wrestling team and the \u201cWe the People\u201d debate team, in addition to holding a part-time job.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is motivation for everyone around me, for someone that looks like me to earn this award,\u201d Abdelsadig said. He plans to study within the fields of science, technology, and math at Colby College in Maine, expressing a particular interest in anatomy. \u201cThis award is a testament to his dedication throughout high school,\u201d said Stacy Morris, ACHS college and career school counselor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The QuestBridge National College Match<\/span><\/a> provides a pathway for high school seniors who have excelled academically, and have financial need, to attend a top college. Through this college and scholarship application process, students can apply to the nation\u2019s best colleges and be considered for early admission and a full four-year scholarship from the school.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
