Earn Recertification Points at Move2Learn Summit

Join the third annual Move2Learn Summit hosted by RunningBrooke on January 10 from 4 to  7 p.m. at T.C. Williams. The event is packed with true A-list speakers from the world of health and fitness who will to speak of the importance of physical activity during the school day, and its positive effects on students and their brain function, such as heightening learning, increasing on-task behavior, building classroom cohesion, and reducing ADHD, depression and obesity.

Teachers, staff and administrators along with ACPS parents, students and interested Alexandria community members can attend for free. Bonus: staff can get three recertification points. Register in PLMS, course #15712.

More Free barre3 Yoga Classes to Kick Off the New Year

Beginning the week of January 7,  take advantage of 6 weeks of free classes:

  • Tuesdays at Ferdinand T. Day Elementary School in the gym, 4-5 p.m.
  • Wednesdays at Central Office, room 310, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Just like last year, participants are asked to bring a yoga mat if they have one, to dress in comfortable clothing, and to bring water. Come prepared – this is a real cardio workout, not yoga as we know it! Learn more about barre3 workouts.

Free Use of Alexandria Recreation Centers

That’s right! All gyms at the recreation centers in the City of Alexandria, including the pool at Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, are free to ACPS staff. ACPS employees must sign in at the front desk and show their badge to use a facility. View a list of all the recreational centers in Alexandria.

Free Use of the Gym at Braddock Place for Full-time Central Office Employees

If you work at Central Office full-time and have a building fob, you are eligible to use the gym located in the courtyard directly across from Sofia’s Cafe. The gym is open 24 hours a day. Please complete and return this waiver (PDF) to Telly Byrd to request access using your ACPS fob.
