{"id":9734,"date":"2018-06-10T20:04:28","date_gmt":"2018-06-11T00:04:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=9734"},"modified":"2018-06-11T06:26:12","modified_gmt":"2018-06-11T10:26:12","slug":"free-meals-available-for-all-children-this-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=9734","title":{"rendered":"Free Meals Available for All Children This Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Free breakfast, lunch and snacks are available to <strong><em>all<\/em> <\/strong>Alexandria City residents 18 years old and younger at <span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 ACPS sites, 15 City recreation centers\/programs\u00a0<\/span>and other sites over the summer.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone in the community 18 years of age and younger is eligible to receive summer meals at no cost through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Summer Food Service Program. All meals will be served free of charge regardless of what a child\u2019s meal benefit was during the regular school year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>View a list of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/summerfood\">2018 Summer Food Program<\/a>\u00a0sites.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A parent or guardian should accompany children on the first visit to provide permission to receive meals and identify any food allergies. At a site, children will go through the cafeteria line and pick up the meal. They may eat in the cafeteria, in the classroom, or other designated site at the discretion of the principal or program leader.\u00a0Meal locations will vary for City sites. Contact sites directly for details.<\/p>\n<p>There is space at each site for community members 18 years old and younger to enjoy their meal. Times of service are posted on each school door.<\/p>\n<p>The Summer Food Service Program for Children is a federally funded program operated nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the USDA regional office.<\/p>\n<p>The Summer Food Program is part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/site\/Default.aspx?PageID=1666\">ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan\u00a0Health and Wellness goal<\/a>, which promotes efforts to enable students to be healthy and ready to learn so that Every Student Succeeds. The ACPS Office of School Nutrition Services is committed to helping our students improve their academic performance through good nutrition.
