Just in time for back-to-school shopping, Virginia has announced a three-day sales tax holiday from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 4 to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 6. Shoppers will be able to purchase <strong>qualifying <\/strong>school supplies, clothing and footwear without paying sales tax.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is exempt from taxes? <\/strong>School supplies, clothing and footwear that meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Qualified school supplies \u2013 $20 or less per item<\/li>\n<li>Qualified clothing and footwear \u2013 $100 or less per item<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All qualifying items exempt from the sales tax may be used in addition to manufacturers coupons and store coupons.<\/p>\n<p>See the following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tax.virginia.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-files\/2017-sales-tax-holiday-guidelines.pdf\">guidelines for the tax-free weekend<\/a>, including qualifying items.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Virginia Department of Taxation, this includes qualifying items purchased online, by mail or over the phone. The holiday is not restricted to Virginia residents.
