School PTAs, community members and groups across Alexandria City Public Schools participated in Spring2ACTion<\/a> on Wednesday, April 20. The result: more than $97,300 to upgrade technology, fund field trips and special programs, build library resources and renovate classrooms and playgrounds. Here is a snapshot of the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
\"John<\/td>\nJohn Adams Elementary School <\/strong>PTA raised $3,525 to cover expenses for the annual fourth grade field trip to Jamestown, cultural events, and for teacher appreciation events and activities.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Charles<\/td>\nCharles Barrett Elementary School <\/strong>PTA raised $2,800 to purchase iPads and accessories that will be used by\u00a0 students in classrooms as\u00a0an extension of their curriculum and a powerful tool for learning and comprehension.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Patrick<\/td>\nPatrick Henry Elementary School’s <\/strong>PTA will use the $425 raised to help fund fun and imaginative activities that will motivate and inspire kids to do their best.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Jeff<\/td>\nJefferson-Houston School <\/strong>PTA will use the $7,755 raised to provide enrichment opportunities in the arts, STEM, and core academic areas to students and to further revitalize\u00a0 the neighborhood school.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Lyles<\/td>\nLyles-Crouch Traditional Academy <\/strong>PTA aims to use the $7,590 they raised to provide each classroom with STEM Action kits to enhance the curriculum and provide hands-on STEM experiences.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Douglas<\/td>\nWith the $2,200 raised by the Douglas MacArthur Elementary School <\/strong>PTA, the school will replace and refresh some of the Mac TV equipment that is used to produce the “Good Morning MacArthur Show,” which has been running since 1999.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Mason<\/td>\nGeorge Mason Elementary School<\/strong> PTA raised $6,265 to fund a comprehensive refresh of the school’s literary resources used by teachers and students.\u00a0 And to ensure that all students, especially those with no books at home, get the tools they need to build reading skills.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Maury<\/td>\nMatthew Maury Elementary School<\/strong> PTA and the grade-level fundraising competition brought in $15,820 with the “Phenomenal Fourth Grade Team” winning a week of free dress for raising $2,140. Funds will be used to buy new instruments for the band and orchestra, Chromebooks and for classroom improvements.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Mt<\/td>\nUsing a divide and conquer strategy, $25,630 was raised\u00a0to transform the Mount Vernon Community School<\/strong> community playground. The PTA brought in $16,840 with an additional $8,790 from multiple individual fundraising pages. Of that, Principal Balas raised $2,860.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"James<\/td>\nJames K. Polk Elementary School<\/strong>‘s PTA raised $2,148 fostering the social development students with Buddy Bench that a student can go to when\u00a0he or she is looking a for a friend with whom to play.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Tucker<\/td>\nSamuel W. Tucker Elementary School<\/strong> PTA raised $5,075 to purchase new teacher resource books, which are essential to promote fluency, comprehension, and growth as readers, and new technology items to benefit the entire school.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Hammond<\/td>\nFrancis C. Hammond Middle School<\/strong>‘s PTA raised $725 to support their student incentive program, which focuses on encouraging and acknowledging positive student behavior. Incentives include student dances,\u00a0 field trips, recognition for art contest winners and more.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"TCW<\/td>\nGroups representing musical interests at George Washington Middle School<\/strong> raised $4,665 to help young musicians develop their passion through the Friends of the Orchestra (FOTO) and Band Boosters.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"TC<\/td>\nNumerous groups representing many interests at T.C. Williams High School<\/strong> raised $6,747. The funds will be used to fund the efforts of groups like the T.C. Williams High School Parent, Teacher, Student Association,\u00a0 Baseball Boosters, Titans Robotics and the Friends of the T.C. Williams Orchestra.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"Scholarship<\/td>\nThe Scholarship Fund of Alexandria<\/strong>, raised $5,930, which will be used to make college dreams come true for under-served Alexandria students through scholarships and college advising.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
