Students compete in six categories (Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts) to create art based on a theme. The contest is multi-tiered; students begin by entering contests at their individual schools. The top winners at each school then move on to the next level of competition, so every one of ACPS&#8217;s District winners had already won 1st Place awards at the school and city levels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Twelve ACPS schools participated in the 2015-16 PTA Reflections program, receiving a total of more than 700 entries<\/li>\n<li>Mount Vernon Community School and Charles Barrett Elementary School tied for the most Alexandria awards won, with ten each. Jefferson-Houston School was a close second, with nine.<\/li>\n<li>Mount Vernon Community School also earned the most District awards (four).<\/li>\n<li>Charles Barrett Elementary School second-grade student Gabriella Tuson won more Alexandria Reflections awards than any other student, with awards for Film Production, Literature, and Photography.<\/li>\n<li>Of the nineteen Alexandria 1st-Place City winners that were advanced to the District, eleven won awards; three of those were 1st-Place awards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students who won second place awards at the District-level competition were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Abigail Riley<\/strong>, fifth-grade student at George Mason Elementary School with <em>Hike<\/em> &#8211; Literature (Intermediate)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gabriel Stewart<\/strong>, third-grade student Mount Vernon Community School Amazon with Dreams &#8211; (tied) Photography (Intermediate)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Claire Vermillion<\/strong>, twelfth-grade student at T.C.
