{"id":13663,"date":"2019-06-09T20:06:05","date_gmt":"2019-06-10T00:06:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=13663"},"modified":"2019-06-09T20:18:11","modified_gmt":"2019-06-10T00:18:11","slug":"lyles-crouch-traditional-academy-celebrates-over-a-decade-of-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=13663","title":{"rendered":"Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy Celebrates Over a Decade of Excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy is celebrating a decade of acknowledgements. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The school has been recognized for the tenth straight year by the Governor of Virginia and the Virginia Board of Education with an Excellence Award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2019 Board of Education Excellence Award honors schools with exceptionally high achievement.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Year after year, the students at Lyles-Crouch have scored in the 90th percentile or higher on state exams. As a result, the school has consistently exceeded performance benchmarks and has been ranked as among the highest achieving schools in the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This continued excellence is a result of the collective efforts of students, staff, and the community to ensure that our students are held to a high standard so that they can embrace a rigorous curriculum. The defining factor of this success is a focus on equitable education through the adoption of a Core Knowledge curriculum,\u201d said Principal Dr. Patricia Zissios.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lyles-Crouch has been an official Core Knowledge School of Distinction since 2006. This means that instruction at Lyles-Crouch is designed to build the background knowledge of all students across the language arts, math, science, and social studies curricula.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Educators at Lyles-Crouch are also committed to equitable education. They approach the achievement gap as a knowledge gap. In building the background knowledge of all students, they have found that achievement excels. All students participate in the curriculum and each student is tested.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the 2017-18 school year, Lyles-Crouch had a large percentage of students at the advanced proficiency level.
