I was born into a revolution of technology
\nthat shot the world forwards
\nAnd I\u2019ve responded with reminiscence of the past.
\nI can remember the green convex screens
\nwhere I played the games
\nthat taught me colors and words,
\nso the age of the touch screen drew a hard line through my childhood.
\nThis, paired with the veil that youth puts over all memories,
\nCreated a warm, familiar image in the back of my mind
\nof a place I’ll never reach again.<\/p>\n
Childhood memories are always like looking into a box
\nfull of things you\u2019ll never experience again
\nbut the hackneyed plight of the millennial
\nis seeing so many familiarities
\ndead and gone within a matter of years.
\nWe have every day of our lives
\ndocumented and accounted for
\nbut only back to a certain year.
\nEvery year before then: fuzzy memories,
\nfuzzy feelings.
\nWe don\u2019t expect solemnity
\nat the funerals we throw for Furbies and flip-phones
\nbut we\u2019ll still mourn in our own way.<\/p>\n
And I can imagine,
\nin the future,
\nthe URL of a tweet
\nannouncing the birth of a baby
\nkept in a virtual safe of family heirlooms;
\nSpotify playlists will be a musical curation of one\u2019s entire life,
\nand what we\u2019ve always treated as
\nfleeting, insignificant, and less-than
\nwill have an air of permanence.
\nThere will be generations
\nnot familiar with the transition we exist in
\nbecause they won\u2019t know
